Welcome

Welcome Letter from Dr. Rodriquez

July 11, 2022

Dear Wheeler Elementary Families,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new principal of Wheeler Elementary School.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community.  I feel very fortunate to be part of our school and to support our students and families. My official start date at Wheeler was Friday, July 1st, but Ms. Saldamando and I worked together the month of June, to ensure a smooth transition.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than twenty years. I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade, and adults in a variety of roles. I have been a bus driver, kindergarten teaching assistant, office clerk, high school Spanish teacher, computer science teacher, professional development coordinator, English language learning teacher coordinator, technology director, learning supports coordinator, and UofA adjunct instructor. Most recently, I served as the principal at Robles Elementary and high school assistant principal at University High School and Santa Rita High School. I am thrilled to be able to bring my skills as an educational leader to Wheeler Elementary to work alongside you as a partner in the educational success of your child.

On a personal note, my husband Sam and I have two children. Our daughter is 27 years old and works in the law enforcement field, and our son is 22 years old and is a computer scientist. As a family, we enjoy hiking, eating, traveling, swimming, and family movie nights. I personally enjoy reading, researching, crafting, and spending time with my friends and family.

I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of Wheeler Elementary this year and in the years to come.   Most importantly, I believe that students are at the center of all school-related decisions.  I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to supporting our students.  Because the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible.  I look forward to meeting you soon!

Sincerely,
